Jakarta Sees Similar Private Vehicle Users Number as before Covid

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Transportation Agency’s head of road transport, Susilo Dewanto, said the number of private vehicle users in the capital city has now reached to almost that of before the Covid-19 pandemic or 96 percent.

“It is only four percent left to reach the same figure as in normal condition (before the pandemic),” said Susilo in a virtual discussion on Tuesday, June 30.

He noted that the normal period meant February and early March 2020. The volume of 96 percent was obtained from data samples in Cipete areas, South Jakarta.

“This has become concerns of transport users; whether the transportation modes are ready and its fleet is sufficient [to serve passengers],” Susilo added.

The surge in the number of private vehicle users was in line with the decreasing number of public transportation users such as Transjakarta.

Susilo reported that the city’s bus service users in the BRT corridor slipped from 484,000 to 132,000 passengers per day during the pandemic, while the number of MRT commuters dropped from 85,000 to 12,000 people.
