Jakarta Lifts PSBB; Will Pull ‘Emergency Brake’ if COVID-19 Cases Soar Again

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Following the announcement that the capital city will be lifting its large-scale social restriction (PSBB), Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria on Monday asserts that the government will not hesitate to pull the ‘emergency brake policy’ again if COVID-19 cases soar again during the 2-weeks transitional PSBB period starting on Monday, October 12.

During his visit to South Jakarta’s Melati Residence housing on Sunday, where a landslide happened, the deputy governor said that social restrictions will gradually be relaxed up to 50 percent from the full-blown PSBB but will halt it once daily confirmed cases increase again to critical phases.

Ahmad Riza maintains that the government had decided to relax the restrictions after official data provided by health authorizations had proven that Jakarta’s COVID-19 daily infection rate had slowed down.

“We are also coordinating with other administrations in our vicinity such as Banten, West Java, Bogor, and so on,” said Ahmad Riza on Sunday, October 11.

The government also announced that it will beef up its health protocols operations against violators dubber the “operasi yustisi” and impose progressive punishments for repeat offenders.
