Jakarta DPRD Supports Anies Baswedan’s Decision to Reimpose PSBB

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Prasetio Edi Marsudi supported Governor Anies Baswedan’s decision to pull the emergency brake and reimpose the total large-scale social restriction or PSBB policy beginning Monday, September 14.

Prasetio argued the city should have indeed enforced stringent social restriction given the alarming situation of Covid-19 transmission. “Observing the current condition regarding the Covid-19 spread, all rules (restrictions) must be returned,” he said in a written statement, Thursday, September 10.

Prasetio said the Jakarta administration was forced to lift the transitional PSBB due to several factors, starting from the nearly full capacity of hospital beds for Covid-19 patients to the high case fatality rate.

Thus, he demanded Anies Baswedan be firm in implementing the PSBB so that virus transmission could be suppressed and slowed down.

“I remind the governor to tighten all supervision. This is not the time to introduce [the regulations] again, but to carry out strict actions,” he said.

As of Wednesday, September 9, Jakarta recorded 49,837 Covid-19 cases since the outbreak. Of which, 37,245 patients have made full recoveries, and 1,347 patients succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
