Jakarta Deputy Governor Asks Rizieq Shihab to Not Create Crowds Again

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria claimed he had asked Rizieq Shihab to not create crowds in Jakarta again. Any activity, including religious ones in the capital city, must be carried out in a limited number based on the Covid-19 health protocol or held virtually.

“That does not diminish the meaning of Maulid (commemorating the prophet’s birthday). If we want to hold Maulid, we don’t have to create a large crowd. The success is measured by the extent to which we can take the Prophet’s great deeds as the model and improve our morals,” said Riza at City Hall on Monday, November 16, 2020.

Riza said the city administration had limited personnel so that it could not prevent the crowds at the Maulid event and the wedding reception of Rizieq Shihab’s daughter on Saturday, November 14. Thousands of people attended the event held at Rizieq’s house in Petamburan, and some of them violated the predetermined health protocol, such as not wearing masks and not maintaining a physical distance.

According to him, the number of Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers supervising the protocol implementation was very limited and did not fit the number of crowds at that time.

However, Riza underlined that the Jakarta administration has carried out its tasks in enforcing the health protocol, such as issuing appeals and disseminating the policy. The government has also imposed a fine of Rp50 million on Rizieq Shihab.
