Indonesian SAR Team: Sriwijaya Air Possibly Fell at Thousand Islands

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The national search and rescue team (Basarnas) said they received the report that Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 had lost contact at 14: 55 western Indonesia time (WIB).

“Basarnas immediately deploy all equipment to conduct a search at the locations where the plane allegedly fell,” said the National SAR team operational deputy Bambang Suryo Aji on Saturday, January 9.

Bambang said Sriwijaya Air’s last point before they lost contact was between Laki Island and Lancang Island, the Thousand Islands. The distance is about 1.5 to 2 miles, he said.

“[Our team] found debris that was suspected part of Sriwijaya [plane], those items are now kept in Basarnas boat,” he said, adding that his side would open a post at JICT II tonight.

According to Bambang, tonight the team will search for the location where the plane might fell, so tomorrow morning they can do a further and deeper search.
