Indonesian Police Officer Convicted Over LGBT Issue Faces Demotion

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Indonesian national police personnel, Brigadier General EP – who was convicted by the institution over his LGBT views, will be required to undergo ‘special training’ once the officer is proven to have violated the police code of ethics.

“The violator will be required to undergo personality, religious, and mental development training for one month,” said the national police’s head of public communication, Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono in Wednesday’s virtual press conference.

According to Awi, EP was found guilty in the institution’s ethical code court trial for violating the Police Chief’s Regulation No.14/2011 and that the officer’s personal sexual preference was deemed as a despicable act.

Police will also require EP to issue a public apology in front of the court judges and to the national police chief over several other punishments that include a demotion and will be transferred to another police district.
