IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The government’s spokesman for the COVID-19 mitigation, Achmad Yurianto, admitted the country’s COVID-19 case fatality rate was above the world’s average.
“Our [fatality rate] is still at 5.0 percent, whereas the global figure at 4.47 percent. This number will continue to be dynamic,” said Yurianto in a press conference with the COVID-19 handling task force in Jakarta on Monday, July 6.
Yurianto reiterated that the death rate was dynamic. The more infection cases found and more patients treated well, the lower the number of the fatality and percentages. He also believed that the number of recoveries will also increase.
The optimism stemmed from the latest data reported by the national COVID-19 task force, revealing that the recovery rate in nine provinces was over 80 percent and over 70 percent in 19 provinces.
However, he reminded that many positive cases had not been identified yet and existed among the public, thus health protocols must be implemented as an effort to prevent infection.
The data also showed that several provinces and even cities still reported a large number of new cases. “This is an indication that we must strengthen the discipline in following the health protocols,” Yurianto asserted.
Referring to the latest data as of Monday, July 6, Indonesia has a total of 64,958 COVID-19 cases, with 29,919 recoveries and 3,241 fatalities. There are also 38,748 people under monitoring (ODP) and 13,360 patients under surveillance (PDP).
