IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Indonesian Health Ministry recorded a total of 1,161 cases of the Covid-19 Omicron variant in the country as of January 22.

“The total Omicron cases since December 15 until today, cumulatively at 1,161,” said the ministry’s director of prevention and control of infectious disease, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, in a webinar on Saturday, January 22.

Nadia explained that most Omicron cases were found in international travelers at 831 cases. Meanwhile, the local transmission reached 282, and 48 cases were still unknown of its origin.

“Omicron cases among the international travelers mostly came from Saudi Arabia, especially the Indonesian Migrant Workers,” she said.

The second most is travelers returning from Turkey.

“Whether the umrah pilgrims will also contribute to the rise of the Omicron cases from Saudi Arabia, we’re still doing the evaluation,” Nadia remarked.
