Govt’s Plan to Appoint Police, TNI Officers as Regional Heads Concerns DPR

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta House of Representative (DPR) Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad urged the government to conduct an in depth review upon its plan to appoint high-ranking officers from the National Police (Polri) and Armed Forces (TNI) as Regional Heads in the wake of the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada).

“The government needs to conduct a study on placing active police or TNI officers as acting- regional leaders,” said Dasco at the Parliamentary complex on September 27, Antaranews reported.

He fears that this plan will reduce the availability of human resources in the two aforementioned institutions ahead of the 2024 elections. Dasco urges for a proper study to be conducted before this plan is set into motion.

Previously reported, the central government opened the option to appoint police and TNI officers as acting-regional leaders ahead of the regional elections as the 2024 Pilkada is expected to leave multiple leadership positions idnewsnowrarily vacant as incumbents run for the elections.
