IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has officially made changes to the national holiday meant in an effort to adapt to the current Covid-19 condition. The holidays affected by these changes include the new Islamic year, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Maulid Nabi), and the Christmas joint leave.
“The government has decided to change the two national holidays and cancel one national joint leave,” said Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy in a virtual press conference.
The Islamic new year holiday, which was set on August 10, 2021, will be changed to Wednesday, August 11, 2021, while the Maulid Nabi holiday that was set on October 19, 2021, will be changed to October 20, 2021. The national Christmas collective leave on December 24 will be removed.
The decision was collectively taken by the Religious Affairs Ministry, Manpower Ministry, and the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, which was made official through the issuance of a joint decree on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Human Development and Culture Ministry headquarters.
Minister Muhadjir said that this complies with the orders from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to prevent any viral spread during the Covid-19 pandemic.
