Govt Blames Undisciplined Parents for Covid-19 Among Children

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Indonesian Health Ministry on Thursday argues that many Covid-19 cases among children can be traced back to their parents, especially among families that fail to implement the proper health protocol.

“What is certain is that the children are infected from their parents that are not disciplined in following health protocols and present their children with the risk of transmission by taking them to malls, restaurants, and travelling in ‘mudik’,” said the Health Ministry’s director of infectious disease prevention and control, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, on June 24.

Based on the data from the Covid-19 task force as of June 17 that Tempo obtained, the case percentage of coronavirus transmissions among school children was 12.51 percent or 235,527 cases and 87.49 percent of  non-school age children with 1,647,684 cases.

The National Covid-19 task force recorded cases in children had reached its peak in January 2021 across various age groups. The active cases saw a decrease until April but showed a rising trend again in May this year.
