Ganjar Pranowo Talks of Special Health Protocol for Boarding Schools

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo opined that special health protocol and collaboration between the government, ulema, and school managers were necessary to contain COVID-19 infection clusters in several Islamic boarding schools or pesantren.

“The key role is on Kiai or ulema, the elder, and the Religious Affairs Ministry. Ulema can together deliberate the protocols for boarding schools. From that, we can review the shortcomings,” said Ganjar in Semarang, Sunday, October 4, 2020.

Ganjar said the virus mitigation in boarding schools must be carried out quickly considering it is one of the places with a high potential of becoming an infection cluster.

“The condition is similar to offices. So let’s not make excessive labels. We are ready to help,” he said.

Ganjar Pranowo stressed that his side continued to conduct the monitoring on the implementation of health protocols until date. In particular, Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen further promoted Gerakan Jogo Santri or a movement to protect students.

Taj Yasin or known as Gus Yasin asked managers of schools in several regencies that were classified as COVID-19 clusters to not repatriate their students. “It is feared they may spread the virus to their respective villages,” he said.

Schools’ managers, he underlined, were also urged to coordinate with the local task force. “Report to us, we will help what needed by schools to handle this,” Gus Yasin said.

Recently, Central Java noted the emergence of COVID-19 infection clusters in several Islamic boarding schools, including in Batang, Kendal, Kebumen, and Banyumas.
