First Week of PSBB: 1,034 Online Ojek Drivers Violate Gathering Rule

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Jakarta Transportation Agency recorded more than one thousand violations committed by online motorcycle taxi or online ojek drivers during the first week of the implementation of the Large-scale Social Restrictions or PSBB

In the PSBB Volume 2, online taxis are allowed to operate and serve passengers under health protocols. However, a gathering of more than five people is banned in an effort to minimize COVID-19 transmission.

“There are 1,034 violations thus far,” said the city’s Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo, in a written statement on Monday, September 21, 2020.

Syafrin outlined there were 177 violations in 125 point areas in 42 sub-districts on the first day of PSBB on Monday, September 14, 191 violations in 191 point areas across 42 sub-districts on the second day, and 258 violations in 145 point areas on the third day.

On Friday alone, the agency recorded 161 violations in 120 point areas. Meanwhile, on Saturday, there were 138 violations in 85 point areas.

Other than the ban on gatherings, online transportation service companies are obliged to apply the Geofencing system during the social restrictions. With the system, drivers cannot get a passenger if they made a gathering in an area.

Based on the Jakarta Transportation Agency Head’s Regulation No. 156 of 2020 concerning the technical guidelines for the implementation of PSBB, online ojek drivers who do not comply with this policy will be prohibited to operate for three days.
