Febri Diansyah Confirms Reasons for Resigning from KPK

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Febri Diansyah confirmed that the controversial revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law (KPK Law) was a turning point that triggered him to resign from the institution.

Febri recalled that he had long discussions with fellow employees about many things, particularly the conditions of the anti-graft body that was considered to have changed.

“I remember that the amended KPK Law was passed on September 17, 2019. We did not immediately leave the KPK at that time. We stayed and tried to do something to keep contributing to the eradication of corruption,” said Febri on Thursday, September 24, 2020.

After observing the current condition, he thought he could make more contributions should he leave the anti-graft agency. “It would be more significant if I stand outside the KPK while keeping the fight and join advocacy against corruption,” said Febri.

As previously reported, Febri submitted a letter of resignation to the KPK Secretary-General on September 18, 2020. He claimed it was a tough decision.

However, he pledged to keep the mandate to eradicate corruption wherever he works. “With all my love for the KPK, I bid my farewell,” Febri added.

Febri Diansyah was an activist at the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) before joining the KPK. He was appointed as a spokesperson in 2016 until 2019, shortly after Firli Bahuri chaired the institution.
