Epidemiologist: Indonesia Needs To Close Social, Economic Activities

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – As Indonesia continues to see high numbers of Covid-19 infections daily, an epidemiologist recommends a shutdown on social and financial activities, for the government to be able to take control of the situation.

” The government need to enforce strict restrictions until August or September,” Tri Yunis Miko Wahyono, head of the Epidemiology Department at the University of Indonesia’s Public Health Faculty, stated on Thursday, July 16.

He said that the federal government must re-shut down social and economic activities to manage this pandemic, prohibiting individuals from leaving their homes without a clear purpose. He recommended executing a license plan for people who require to go out for factors other than getting groceries or medicine.

” We need tighter social constraints,” he asserted.

According to Tri, the last massive social limitations– or PSBB as known locally– was of average category. “We can refrain from doing that once again if we wish to control this pandemic.”

He asked the Jakarta government to end the shift period for the so-called brand-new typical era. “If they want to manage the infection rate, what should be done is tightening restrictions– not extend the transition duration,” he mentioned.

Tri said Jakarta guv Anies Baswedan did not make the best policy by loosening social restrictions while the pandemic is still out of control, particularly being sorry for the decision to reopen movie theaters.

He stated that theaters are a location of high threat for transmission– referring to what took place in South Korea. “Korea was practically at absolutely no new cases. Then they opened movie theaters and cases are back up once again.”
