DPR’s Legislative Body Approves Bill on Sexual Violence

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Legislative Body of the House of Representatives (DPR) approved the draft bill on sexual violence or RUU TPKS completed by the Working Committee in the parliament.

The chairman of the Working Committee from the NasDem Party faction, Willy Aditya, stated that the approval of the bill was gained after going through various stages.

Willy explained that the committee received various views from the expert team regarding the main idea of the bill. This draft is the basic foundation before the committee works to formulate regulations for the protection of victims of sexual violence and harassment.

“We also made diplomatic visits to Ecuador and Brazil to observe regulations related to sexual violence in the destination countries,” Willy said in the Parliament Building on Wednesday, December 8.

The Parliament then worked out article by article up to the formulation of the title of the law. The name of the bill on the eradication of sexual violence was changed to RUU TPKS considering that the law would be more effective in protecting victims and detaining perpetrators of sexual violence and harassment.
