Densus 88 Arrests 5 Members of Jamaah Islamiyah

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The national police’s counterterrorism detachment, Densus 88, apprehended five people suspected to be Jamaah Islamiyah members today, November 9, 2021.

“This was the follow up arrests. Previously, [we] caught eight terrorist suspects in Lampung,” said the Police spokesman, Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan, in today’s press conference.

The five suspects are BA (caught in Bojonegoro), AS (caught in Gresik), AN and RH (caught in Kediri), and MA (caught in Sumenep). They were arrested this morning.

He said the suspects had different roles. BA gave a set of M16 firearm to other suspect, HP, who was nabbed earlier.

AS was JI’s training instructor in Poso. According to the police spokesman, AS provided physical training and combat, starting from the tactical and survival training, shooting, until assembling weapons, and bombs.

AN and RH were nabbed based on the previous arrest. Meanwhile, MA was listed in the organization structure of Jamaah Islamiyah and was the coordinator of Sumenep area.

The investigation on the motives of the suspects is still underway.

“Densus 88 continuously prevents and takes actions against terrorism to maintain safety in Indonesia,” Ahmad added.
