Cyclists Traveling on Non-bike Lanes Subjected to Rp100,000 Fine

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Metro Police’s traffic unit announced that it will start handing Rp100,000 ticket fines to cyclists that travel outside the bike lanes.

“Cyclists that do not travel on the intended lanes will face legal consequences,” said the Jakarta Traffic Police Chief Sr. Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in Central Jakarta. The ticketing on cyclists is overseen by Article 299 of the Traffic Law and Transportation.

However, Sambodo Purnomo made it clear that this rule will only apply to public roads that already have bicycle lanes. As for those without bicycle lanes, cyclists are still permitted to travel over public roads as long as they adhere to basic safety rules.

The police said that this rule will be disseminated for a week and will be made effective after the socialization period ends.

In the meantime, the idnewsnowrary pop up bike lanes will be made available from Monday through Friday from 6 AM to 8 AM and from 4 PM to 7 PM.
