COVID-19 Vaccine; Healthcare Workers, Working Age Population Prioritized

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto on Wednesday said that the government will be prioritizing medical workers and general healthcare workers as recipients of the future COVID-19 vaccine as they are at the forefront of Indonesia’s battle against the global pandemic.

“The vaccine will be prioritized for those in the front line which consists of the entire medical workers and general healthcare workers in nationwide medical facilities,” which was noted in Wednesday’s press release from the meeting between Terawan and the Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

The meeting also reveals that the vaccine will be given to the productive working age group of 18-59 year olds that are considered as people with a high risk infection probability group.

Minister Terawan explains that the current dose needed for the nationwide vaccination reaches 320 million doses but the vaccine usage index suggests the government needs at least 352 million doses.

In the same meeting, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said that the government has established communication with countries such as China, United Arab Emirate, and the United Kingdom in terms of helping to provide vaccines for Indonesia.
