COVID-19 Vaccination for Teenagers Soon to Commence, Says Jokowi

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday officially announced the COVID-19 vaccination for the 12-17 age demographic could soon be commenced after the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) permitted the use of the Sinovac vaccine for the age group.

“We are thankful that the BPOM has issued an emergency use authorization for the Sinovac vaccine that is deemed safe for people aged 12-17 years old,” said the President in a statement on June 28. “This means the vaccination for this age demographic can soon commence.”

The BPOM’s issuance of the emergency use authorization was made official under the letter coded RG.01.02.322.06.21.00169/T that was issued two days prior. The agency has set 600 SU/0.5 ml as the official recommended dose.

This news comes as a breath of fresh air after the mortality rate of people aged 10-18 years old reached 30 percent with transmission among children and teenagers tending to rise.

“Let me remind everyone that we must continue to work hard to achieve the one million daily vaccination target until the end of July, which will be increased twofold in August 2021 with two million doses each day,” said President Jokowi on June 28.
