Covid-19 Task Force: Covid Not Only Java Island Problem

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Spokesman of the Covid-19 Mitigation Task Force Wiku Adisasmito said that there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in Sumatera in the past few weeks. This condition is the exact opposite of the condition in Java, which shows a decrease in Covid-19 cases.

“Sumatera which generally provides less than 20 percent contribution to the national case numbers, started to experience a significant increase in the past month and a half with a 27.22 percent in May 2021 conpared to January 2021,” Wiku said in an online press conference on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Based on data, Wiku said that in general, Java provides around 60 to 70 percent if the national Covid-19 cases. However, since May 2021, the contribution started to experience an increase in 11.06 percent compared to January 2021.

“We can learn a lesson that Covid-19 is not a problem only in Java. But an increase can also occur outside Java, even in regions with less hustle and bustle,” Wiku.

Wiku also reminded the regional government to take anticipation steps. There is no guarantee that Covid-19 will not affect a region even there was no positive case recorded in the region.

Currently, Wiku mentioned 33 province in Indonesia that has reCovidgents and cities referred as orange zones, and 7 provinces referred as red zones. Despite the difference in zones among cities, Wiku said that access from a province to another is easy.

Wiku requested provincial governments to routinely provide updated information concerning risk zones to their residents. “Therefore, the public is expected to be able to make wise decisions based on the information on risk zones,” Wiku said.
