Counterterrorism Agency Emphasizes Mass Media Role against Terrorism

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) chief, Boy Rafli Amar, in a written statement on Tuesday underlined the important role of mass media as a platform to disseminate the government’s attempt to combat or prevent terrorism.

He argues that media coverage on this issue can increase the public’s self-awareness regarding intolerance and radicalism especially since the BNPT will repackage the way it reports about the dangers of terrorism to cater millennials.

“The BNPT delivers its information regarding terrorism in a more interesting way which can be accepted by the public, especially the millennial generation,” he said on June 22.

Amar insists that technological advancements have pushed state institutions to continue innovating and developing its communication network with mass media.

The Presidential Regulation on the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism that Leads to Terrorism 2020-2024 has also been introduced since June 16 by the counterterrorism agency, which works closely with 46 state Ministries and Institutions across five regions that utilizes soft approaches.
