Child Protection Official Named Suspect in Rape Case

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Lampung Regional Police named an official of the Lampung Integrated Care Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) a suspect for raping a 14-year-old girl.

“Based on the examination from the evening of July 7 to July 8 in the morning, we named DA as a suspect,” said Lampung Regional Police spokesman Comr. Zahwani Pandra Arsyad to Tempo on Wednesday, July 8.

The girl was allegedly raped and sexually abused by the institution’s official identified as DA when she was in the safe house run by the agency to receive psychological counseling and treatment after she had been raped by her uncle NV at the end of November 2019. NV was sentenced to 13 years in jail by the local court.

The police have examined eight witnesses including the victim and obtained a visum et repertum (legal medical report) from a hospital. The examination on the rape survivor, Zahwani added, was carried out by the Women and Child Protection Unit (PPA) and trauma healing services.

“The victim has been given trauma healing services by the Medicine and Health Department (Biddokkes) of the Lampung Regional Police,” said Zahwani.

The police had also summoned the perpetrator, DA, for further examinations. Zahwani hoped DA would be cooperative and meet the call.
