BPS: Domestic Air Passengers Grow 7.26% in August 2021

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded the number of domestic air passengers in August 2021 amounted to 1.1 million people, up by 7.26 percent compared to July 2021.

BPS Head Margo Yuwono said the increase also occurred in the number of international passengers. “The number in August 2021 was 44,600 people, increasing by 3.00 percent compared to that in July 2021,” said Margo in a virtual press conference on Friday, October 1.

Throughout January-August 2021, the number of domestic passengers reached 17.7 million people, down by 18.26 percent compared to the same period last year at 21.6 million people. The number of foreign passengers also plummeted by 89.75 percent or 356,600 people.

The highest surge in the domestic air passengers’ numbers was recorded at Juanda Airport in Surabaya at 31.58 percent, followed by Soekarno Hatta Airport in Banten at 28.57 percent.

The largest number of domestic air passengers was noted at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, amounting to 30.09 percent of the total national number or 321,300 people. “Followed by Surabaya’s Juanda Airport at 97,500 people or 9.13 percent,” Margo outlined.

Meanwhile, Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport reported the highest hike in the number of international passengers by 100 percent. The largest number of international passengers, however, was noted at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at  94.84 percent, or reaching 42,300 people of the total overseas passengers.
