BMKG Warns of Possible Tidal Flood

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Firm (BMKG) reminded the people of the tidal flood predicted to occur at some point in between December 18 to December 22,2021 Deputy of Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto, stated that the tidal flood level in Indonesia may increase because of the full moon and high rain intensity in several Indonesian areas.

” A number of Indonesian seaside areas are motivated to stay alert for the possible boost in maximum tide level and the possibility of coastal floods,” Guswanto stated in his written statement on Friday, December 17, 2021.

Tidal floods are predicted to take place in 23 regions in Indonesia, one of which is Jakarta. Other regions include, Belawan, Natuna Island, Riau Archipelago, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali.

Tidal floods are also forecasted to happen in West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Ternate, Halmahera, northern part of West Papua, northern part of Papua, and Merauke.

Guswanto asserted that tidal flood can interrupt people’s activities, such as loading and discharging activities in ports, salt ponds and inland fisheries. Activities in seaside suburbs will also be interrupted.

” Such condition can normally disrupt people’s daily activities around ports and coastal areas,” Guswanto stated.
