Bahlil Lahadalia Likens Omnibus Law to Red Carpet for Investors

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman Bahlil Lahadalia considered the omnibus law on job creation as a means to provide a red carpet or facility for all investors, both domestic and foreign, from small to large scale businesses.

“We really want to take care of investors and be fair. We don’t just give a carpet for certain groups, but all. So the BKPM has to change its paradigm, be concerned about the large, medium, small-scale businesses either foreign or domestic. All must be given the same carpet,” said Bahlil in an online discussion on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

He added that his side contributed suggestions during the deliberation of the bill, which was targeted to be released in October 2020, especially on the licensing and investment. The inputs were presented based on President Jokowi’s instruction, Bahlil said.

“Omnibus Law, as ordered by the President, will bring ease in the business licensing and certainty. In the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 7/2019 on the authority of BKPM, the BKPM must be focused to grant the ease of doing business for all investors, both domestic or foreign,” he said.

Additionally, President Jokowi demanded the handling of small-scale investors, including micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs). “Because under the President’s instruction, we need to create and encourage new business actors who will later become reliable national players, and that must be carried out evenly from Aceh to Papua,” Bahlil Lahadalia remarked.
