Anies Baswedan Talks on Jakarta’s Economic Growth in DPRD Plenary

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Tuesday’s plenary meeting with the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) said the capital city’s economic growth had slowed down as a consequence of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the governor, Jakarta’s economy in Q2 was contracted by 8.22 percent “due to the drop in household consumption and investments.”

Another aspect causing the sluggish economic growth, Anies said, is the weak global demand that has caused the city’s exports to record negative growth.

He also acknowledged that the Large-scale Social Restriction (PSBB) has reduced people’s income and businesses’ ability to pay the wages of their employees, which has led to a series of layoffs (PHK).

“This will cause the drop in people’s buying power,” Governor Anies Baswedan said.

He revealed that the Jakarta region’s income up until June 2020 only managed to generate Rp23.88 trillion or merely 29.04 percent of the city’s initial plan of Rp82.19 trillion.
