IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Monday said the time had arrived for news media outlets to consider reporting news with English subtitles to better communicate with readers and viewers who were not native Indonesians.
“If I may, start to use English subtitles. We must place our journalistic works on the international scale,” said Governor Anies Baswedan in Monday’s virtual speech for the 46th MH Thamrin Award for Journalism.
The governor says Jakarta was one of the largest cities in the southern hemisphere of the globe, which further backed his call to assume the city’s news media outlets as a global player in the journalistic world that had both local and international audiences.
“So if our news reports can attract a wider audience, Inshallah [God willing] this will elevate Jakarta even further to the international stage,” said Anies in his speech.
