Program HN: spent a weekend “hacking” the UI of WhatsApp, then released 2 addons

I had a need for 2 missing out on functions in WhatsApp and Messenger, and as I’m utilized to customizing the websites I utilize the most (JavaScript injection with TamperMonkey) I ultimately proceeded and began the tasks.

It took simply a couple of minutes! … for me to understand I had greatly underestimated the problem of the tasks.

Those apps, it ends up, don’t utilize regular inputs for the users to type messages; they utilize an unusual mix of divs and periods, most likely to avoid security concerns.

These were some of the tasks I took pleasure in the most, and I was left wondering if being a hacker feels as fun as that.
