Github Is Down

That’s just an automated status check, the above remark is referring to an occurrence which includes prose and updates from the ops group to describe what’s really happening.

FWIW, the API and Git operations are undoubtedly still operating, so if for example you have the GitHub mobile app you can still read your concerns and whatnot.

Time for a decentralised github and yes I know GIT is decentralised. It is about issue management, discovery, pull request etc.

Is it simply me or is this happening more and more typically just recently, i.e. since Microsoft got GitHub?
It’s also really shady that they don’t even appear to identify these occurrences properly.

Yeah, it’s really periodic (from the UK).
In some cases it’s 500 and after that it works once again for a couple of seconds …

Maybe hey just want to show off the new falling OctoCat error page:-RRB-

Self-hosting merely means your downtime doesn’t happen with everyone else’s.

And there are some great factors for not self-hosting: price/comfort, integrated tools, decent security without needing to do your own, and so on

> price/comfort, integrated tools, good security without having to do your own, and so on

It’s more about control and ownership of your own server and data and this same argument can be made for hosting your own site (rate, tools, security) which is preserved by you.

I just got a reaction from Microsoft: our Windows servers are rebooting to install the latest updates.

It was back for a minute, now 500 again. Each refresh is a lotto, 200 or 500.

Git the variation control system is (well, its “distributed”), but GitHub not a lot because the repos themselves are saved main, afaik. I think one of the most they handle are servers for different countries.

In theory.

The site is down? Apache is running, it doesn’t make good sense to reboot the server.

Yeah, I’m getting 500 here in the UK
