Supervisory council declares KPK chairman Firli Bahuri guilty of ethics violation

The Corruption Elimination Commission (KPK) supervisory council has actually stated the commission ' s chairman, Firli Bahuri, guilty of a principles violation for showing a “hedonistic lifestyle”.

The council ' s panel of ethics stated that Firli had stopped working to reveal excellent action in his everyday habits, as mandated by KPK Supervisory Board Policy No. 2/2020 on the enforcement of the KPK code of ethics and conduct.

Moreover, the panel explained Firli ' s carelessness in recognizing that his mindsets and actions were inherent to and showed his position as a KPK workers.

“[The panel] has found [Firli] guilty of breaching the [KPK's] code of ethics and conduct,” supervisory council chair Tumpak Panggabean said throughout a hearing on Thursday.

The council handed down a “light sentence” of written reprimand as punishment for Firli– the first-ever KPK chief to be declared guilty of an ethics offense.

The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Neighborhood (MAKI) previously filed a report versus Firli for using a private helicopter to take a personal trip from Palembang, North Sumatra, to his home town of Baturaja in the exact same province in June, implicating him of living a “hedonistic lifestyle”.

After the hearing, Firli said that he accepted the penalty bied far by the council and swore not to repeat his mistake.

” I take the opportunity today to say sorry to all Indonesian people who might feel uneasy [due to my actions],” Firli told kompas.com on Thursday.

In an interview held after the hearing, Tumpak said that he hoped there would be no more principles offenses devoted by workers of the antigraft agency in the future.

“[The council] definitely hopes that all commission workers […] would always speak and act in such a way that keeps the dignity of the commission in accordance with the recognized code of ethics and habits,” he said. (mfp)
