Stalled domestic worker bill acquires momentum, gives hope

Domestic employees in Indonesia may see a light at the end of the tunnel as legislators relocate to advance a domestic worker security bill that has been in limbo for over a years. Activist Lita Anggraini from the National Network on Domestic Worker Advocacy (Jala PRT) said she hoped all House of Representatives’ factions would accept the expense in its future consideration and that the government would respond favorably to the effort. “The law might change the frame of mind [such that] domestic workers are [considered] just as essential as any other employee,” she stated on Wednesday. Passing the expense would not just empower domestic employees but would likewise enhance the country’s bargaining power in Indonesian migrant domestic workers’ placements in other nations, Lita stated. Lita’s remarks followed a House of Representatives Legislation B.
