Representative clarifies declaration on unreported COVID-19 cases

The two million unreported (COVID-19) cases were not favorable case

Jakarta – A spokesperson of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Financial Investment, Jodi Mahardi clarified statement on two million unreported COVID-19 cases, by saying that it was the number of unreported unfavorable cases.

” The 2 million unreported (COVID-19) cases were not favorable cases. But there are lots of negative outcomes of the tests which are not yet reported by the laboratories,” he stated in a statement here on Saturday.

With a restricted variety of data entry authorities, labs are overwhelmed by the high number of COVID-19 testing and tend to focus on positive cases for immediate treatment.

Formerly in a virtual conference with Vice Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono, epidemiologists and health specialists on Thursday (Feb 4), Deputy Chief of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee (KPC-PEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated there were some two million data or more that have yet to be reported.

Pandjaitan, concurrently the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment stated, the federal government has a job to take on concerns on unintegrated data of COVID-19 cases in main and city governments.

Mahardi said, the general public needs to have misinterpretated the minister’s declaration.

” When we consist of the (unfavorable case) information,, then the positivity rate will decline appropriately. Worries of a rise (in COVID-19) cases will not be taken place,” he included.

He admitted that information combination has been a severe issue for the COVID-19 handling.

Minister Pandjaitan has focused on the enhancement of incorporated management system thus information on COVID-19 cases shared to the general public is factual and real.

The minister has also encouraged establishment of big information on health that would incorporate all sources of health data such as electronic medical record, health insurance, vaccine and others, particularly in the time of the pandemic.

” This is our research. But the minister saw the pandemic as a momentum for the government to improve our database, not just in health sector, but also other sectors. In the future we can have a much better management system,” Mahardi said.
