President Jokowi to lead 7 of 8 ASEAN Top conferences

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will lead 7 out of 8 meetings during the 42 nd Association of Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN) Summit that will be held on May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

According to the statement provided on Saturday by the 2023 ASEAN Top Communication and Media Team, the meetings that Jokowi will lead consist of the Plenary Session, top retreat session and 15 th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) session.

There will also be conferences with representatives from ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Youth, ASEAN Organization Advisory Council (ABAC), and Top-level Job Force on ASEAN Community Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV).

Meanwhile, another meeting, namely the 15 th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Development Location (BIMP-EAGA) Summit, will be chaired by the Malaysian Prime Minister.

Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said that several issues would be talked about within the top, which comprise the fortifying of ASEAN institutions, formulation of the post-2025 ASEAN vision, and circumstance in Myanmar.

” There will also be a discussion on post-pandemic financial recovery, enhancing health architecture in the area, and other important issues in and out of the area,” he said.

The 42 nd ASEAN Top is expected to produce a number of documents, including ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on ASEAN organization fortifying, post-2025 ASEAN Vision, human trafficking handling, defense of migrant employees and their families throughout a crisis, health, electric automobile environment, and the network development of ASEAN’s villages.

The summit will be gone to by the presidents of ASEAN nations, consisting of Timor Leste as the 11 th member country with observer status based upon the outcome of the 40 th and 41 th Summit in Cambodia.

A side event in the type of Individuals Celebration ( Festival Rakyat) by the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry and the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry will be held on May 9-13, 2023.

The event showcases various micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) items, beach clean-up and cultural efficiencies.

The 42 nd ASEAN Top will be the first out of two tops under Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023.

During the very first summit in May, ASEAN leaders will go over the association’s internal problems and other crucial issues both inside and beyond the region.

Meanwhile, the 43 rd ASEAN top, planned to be held in Jakarta in September 2023, will not just be gone to by ASEAN leaders but also leaders of ASEAN partner nations.

The conversation throughout the summit will focus on the advancement and conditioning of ASEAN’s partnership with external celebrations.
