Omnibus law: 87 called suspects for role in protest violence

Jakarta – The Jakarta Metropolitan Authorities have called 87 individuals as suspects for their declared involvement in violent rallies versus the job production law in a number of places in the Indonesian capital on Thursday (October 8, 2020).

The authorities apprehended 1,192 persons after protests against the omnibus law turned violent on Thursday. Of them, 285 were presumably apprehended for dedicating criminal offenses.

Yunus stated seven of the 87 thinks might deal with jail time of more than five years, if condemned.

The 7 suspects may be charged with breaking Article 170 of the Penal Code, which refers to resisting cops personnel, he stated.

Thursday’s arrests were made after demonstrators staging rallies against the job development law reportedly turned to violence and vandalized public centers, including cops post stations and main cars, he notified.

Nearly 50 percent of the demonstrators who have actually been apprehended are underaged students, he said adding, they will be launched once their parents come to choose them up. They will also have to sign a written undertaking stating they will not repeat their misbehaviors, he continued.
