Ministry seeks improvement in early cancer detection services

I think we require to prevent it early. We require to carry out early detection and then do prevention by eliminating risk elements

Jakarta – Director-general of illness prevention and control at the Ministry of Health Maxi Rein Rondonuwu has asked all health facilities to enhance the arrangement of early detection services for cancer.

” I think we need to prevent it early. We need to perform early detection and then do avoidance by getting rid of risk factors,” he said throughout a media rundown for the 2022 World Cancer Day, themed “Close the Care Gap,” on Wednesday.

Based upon Globocan information, in 2020, the number of cancer patients in Indonesia reached 65,858, with the variety of clients with cervical cancer tape-recorded at 36,633, he noted.

According to Rondonuwu, the overall amount invested by the state on dealing with cancer patients alone reached Rp4.1 trillion in 2019 and Rp3.5 trillion in 2020 as lots of patients went to health facilities when the cancer was already at an innovative stage.

One-third to half of the patients who died of cancer might have been saved through preventive procedures and early detection, he highlighted.

Unfortunately, there are still lots of health facilities that do not offer early detection services efficiently, he stated. If a client from the eastern part of Indonesia desires to access a radiotherapy service, the client needs to first come to Surabaya, he discussed.

He stated, clients have to once again queue for one to 2 years to be able to access the service.
