Ministry preparing over 2,000 medical scholarships for this year

Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Health is preparing more than two thousand scholarships for the medical professional, sub-specialist, and main service family doctor education program this year.

” This scholarship is meant to cover the lack of medical specialists in Indonesia,” Director for Health Worker Provision at the ministry Oos Fatimah informed here on Tuesday.

Indonesia is still trying to attain the target medical expert ratio of 0.28 per 1,000 population.

Currently, 46,200 medical specialists are serving 277 million Indonesians. This implies that Indonesia still needs around 31,481 medical specialists.

Based upon the medical specialist spread in Indonesia’s map, they are still concentrated in Jakarta, Bali, and Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, the provinces that need medical specialists make up East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, Maluku, North Maluku, and West Papua.

The ministry reported that just five provinces have cardiologists. Internal medicine professionals are spread out across 6 provinces, while ob-gyn specialists are offered in 11 provinces.

Moreover, surgeons are spread in 6 provinces, anesthesiologists in four provinces, scientific pathologists in seven provinces, and radiology doctors in one province. There are no anatomical pathology experts in Indonesia.

In addition, thoracic, cardiac, and vascular (BTKV) surgeons are just in one province, lung experts in one province, urology professionals in 3 provinces, neurologists in seven provinces, neurosurgeons in 3 provinces, and orthopedic professionals and traumatology in three provinces.

” Usually, there are around 30 provinces in Indonesia that do not have medical specialists. This means that we are handling a problem, not just from amount perspective, however likewise from circulation perspective,” she notified.
