Migrant workers should acquire proficiency before working abroad: minister

As mandated by Law Number 18 of 2017, Indonesian migrant workers are not permitted to go to work abroad if they do not have skills

Jakarta – Workforce Minister Ida Fauziyah has highlighted that Indonesian migrant employees must develop their skills before leaving the country to work abroad.

” As mandated by Law Number 18 of 2017, Indonesian migrant employees are not permitted to go to work abroad if they do not have competence,” the minister stated in a composed declaration received here on Saturday.

The security of workers is the main focus in the positioning of Indonesian migrant employees. The upstream of this protection is competency that needs to be had by all employees before pursuing work in other countries, she said.

Law Number 18 of 2017, she said, could be the primary step to fixing the governance of migrant employees’ placement.

The guideline specifies that the central government, through its ministries or organizations, city governments as much as the town level, the private sector, and the community have their particular roles, she noted.

For this reason, all celebrations should continue to interact to execute the law to improve the competence of people seeking jobs in other nations, she worried.

To assist potential migrant workers and secure their future, the Ministry of Manpower will continue to aim to push them to enhance their proficiency, Fauziyah said.

” We will continue to strive so that next year in 2022, there will be training quotas for potential migrant workers through the Pre-employment Card Program,” she included.
