Komnas HAM, President Widodo talk about pattern of intolerance

Jakarta – The National Commission on Person Rights (Komnas HAM) on Monday met Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the State Palace, here to hold a discussion on numerous matters relating to human rights.

Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik exposed that apart from discussing International Human Rights Day, to be celebrated on December 10, 2020, his celebration had likewise held a conversation on the trend of intolerance.

” Earlier, we were also going over the pattern of intolerance, for instance, associated to the disruption of a group of people, who carry out worship or build houses of worship,” Damanik said during an interview after meeting the president here on Monday.

Damanik conveyed that Komnas HAM had actually put forth a more just arrangement based on the freedom of all citizens to practice their respective faiths.

” This is since a modification of the existing ministerial joint policies is needed,” he noted.

Komnas HAM is looking for a higher policy, for which it had recommended a Perpres, or governmental guideline.

” It will be talked about internally in the federal government, and the point is that the president welcomes it,” he discussed.

Taufan is positive that Komnas HAM’s proposition would help in addressing the problem of intolerance suppressing individuals’s flexibility of worship.
