Indonesia’s hardship elimination efforts to cover 212 areas in 2022

Jakarta – The government is expanding the target for eliminating extreme hardship by 2022- end to 212 districts and cities, Vice President Ma’ ruf Amin said in a limited meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

” For 2022, the priority places will be reached 212 districts and cities,” he informed in a statement received here on Wednesday.

He stated that reducing severe poverty is the federal government’s top priority program, and it is targeted to reach no percent by the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, for 2021, the federal government is prioritizing the removal of extreme hardship in 35 districts and cities situated in seven provinces– West Java, Central Java, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua, he informed. The target is to bring the poverty rate to zero percent by the end of 2021, he said.

” For 2021, extreme hardship relief is focused on 7 provinces representing 2.1 million individuals (extremely poor). Of course, this is a really difficult task, thinking about that 2021 will end in 3 months,” Amin observed.

2 major groups of programs are key for the federal government to remove severe hardship in the community, he stated.

The very first is the circulation of social support and subsidies to lower the expenditure burden on the extremely poor, he informed.

” The second is the empowerment program to increase productivity in order to increase their economic capacity,” he added.

He then reminded all ministries and non-ministerial government organizations as well as city governments to strive to resolve the problem of extreme hardship without hold-up.

” This target has become our guarantee to the community. For that reason, I repeat once again that we need to work hard to ensure that the target is attained,” he stated.
