JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia plans to provide cash transfers to 13.8 million workers at an expense of around $2.15 billion under its stimulus bundle to prop up family consumption in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy throughout the pandemic, authorities stated.

Indonesia reported on Wednesday gdp contracted 5.32%in the second quarter as home intake, which represents more than half of the economy, fell 5.51%from a year earlier.

” The federal government’s objective by putting extra income is to support home consumption, which is essential to move the economy and pushing for financial enhancement,” State-owned Enterprise minister Erick Thohir stated on Thursday.

Thohir said in the statement workers on a month-to-month earnings of listed below 5 million rupiah ($34364) would receive about $41 a month for 4 months starting September.

Thohir, who is chairing a COVID-19 healing task force, said non-government officers along with staff members of state-owned companies signed up with the employee’s social security service provider BPJS Ketenagakerjaan would be qualified.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani on Wednesday put the cost of the program at about 31.2 trillion rupiah ($ 2.15 billion) and said it was part of efforts to speed up dispensation of the government’s COVID-19 stimulus by reallocating parts of the $50 billion programme to more useful use.
