Jakarta – Indonesia needs to strive to suppress the frequency of stunting to 14 percent by 2024, an authorities from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Being Advancement and Culture (Kemenko PMK) has actually stated.

” We need effort and extraordinary action to curb stunting to 14 percent by 2024 as mentioned in the 2020–2024 medium-term advancement plan (RPJMN),” deputy for coordination of health quality improvement and population development at the ministry, Agus Suprapto, stated in a written statement received here on Wednesday.

Nationally, the frequency of youth stunting has been recorded at 24.4 percent, underweight kids at 17 percent, and losing 7.1 percent (SSGI, 2021), he informed.

In addition, he said, many people are still struggling with nutritional deficiency and overnutrition.

The obstacle to improve nutritional status is even more considerable thinking about that the COVID-19 pandemic can interrupt people’s health, socio-economic conditions, and impact their eating patterns or food intake, Suprapto kept in mind.

” In the efforts to attain the target, assistance from all parties is required, such as from ministries, firms, development partners, professionals, universities, spiritual leaders, and community leaders,” he said.

He worried that stunting reduction needs to be accelerated holistically, in an integrated way, and with quality through coordination, synergy, and synchronization in between the main and regional governments along with other celebrations, including the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).

Interventions must be implemented along with methods for increasing human resource capability and education at the level of homes, integrated health services posts (Posyandu), community health centers (puskesmas), and other places to support efforts to enhance nutrition, he stated.

He further stated that National Nutrition Day might be used as a platform for joint monitoring of the health of teens, pregnant women, women of childbearing age, and potential brides.

Based upon data, there are 16,347,800 ladies of childbearing age who are not individuals of the family planning program, 4,887,405 pregnant ladies, and 5.33 million stunted children, he included.
