Indonesia committed to increasing females’s participation in UN objectives

The reality that an overall of 183 ( Indonesian) female soldiers are joining different UN peace missions shows Indonesian commitment to increase their number and support the development of a conducive environment for female soldiers in the UN mission.

Jakarta – Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted Indonesian women’s increased participation in various United Nations peace objectives during an online workshop on Thursday (July 8, 2021).

” The reality that an overall of 183 (Indonesian) female soldiers are joining numerous UN peace missions shows Indonesian dedication to increase their number and support the production of a favorable environment for female soldiers in the UN mission,” she stated in the written declaration of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Breaking barriers for ladies in peacekeeping is vital to making sure the full involvement of ladies in peace missions, the minister said at the workshop on Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) Ladies, Peace and Security (WPS) Champions: Practical Recommendations for Breaking Barriers for Ladies in Peacekeeping.

” This recommendation (I) communicated today can hopefully become an input for the UN to formulate policies which will act as a driver to promote women’s function in UN objectives,” she added.

She made three recommendations for promoting Indonesian ladies’s function in UN peace missions.

The first recommendation concerns the value of creating facilities conscious gender in peace objectives, Marsudi said. Guaranteeing a safe environment for female UN peacekeepers is the top priority of Indonesia as one of the greatest factors of soldiers to the UN objective, she included.

” The second thing which is of equal significance is recognizing barriers at the national level,” she explained.

The identification of barriers need to be adjusted to the regional culture and situation of each nation to attain maximum results, she stated.

Last but not least, she stressed Indonesia’s assistance for female peacekeeper networking. “This networking will offer extra assistance to increase the variety of female soldiers in UN objectives,” she discussed.

She stated full, effective, and significant participation of women in UN objectives is a common responsibility.

” Indonesia will constantly commit to be part of this,” she said.

The A4P WPS conference became part of a series of online expert-level seminars jointly arranged by Indonesia, Ireland, Germany, Bangladesh, South Africa, Kenya, and Namibia.
