Jakarta – Indonesia should benefit from the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Convention 2003 to support its cultural diplomacy abroad, a Foreign Ministry official has stated.
” How is Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy through the ICH Convention 2003? As a culture-rich nation, Indonesia must be able to take advantage of the ICH Convention 2003 to support cultural promotion and expand potentials for cultural cooperation on a big scale,” Director of Sociocultural Affairs and International Company for Establishing Countries at the Foreign Ministry Cent Dewi Herasati stated.
The ICH Convention 2003 belongs of the cultural cooperation program. In concept, cooperation under the UNESCO program should serve peace and cooperation interests, in accordance with UNESCO’s Constitution, she said throughout a casual talk on the ICH Convention in Jakarta on Thursday.
The ICH Convention 2003 intends to determine intangible culture, guarantee the associated community’s and individuals’ efforts to maintain the intangible cultural heritage, increase regional, nationwide, and worldwide awareness on the importance of intangible cultural heritage, and motivate shared regard, she informed.
” In general, the UNESCO Convention alone has the spirit and principle which focuses on cooperation and mutual respect among nations,” she added.
She said the engraving of cultural heritage is the beginning point for preserving culture. This is since it can open many cooperation opportunities for Indonesia, consisting of practical cooperation for protecting culture in assistance of the imaginative market.
