Hawk aircraft crashed post training workout: TNI AU commander

Pekanbaru – A Hawk aircraft of the Indonesian Air Force that crashed into a house in Riau Province on Monday had actually just finished a combat training mission in Siabu, stated TNI AU Commander Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo.

The Hawk 0209 TT fighter aircraft crashed in Siak Hulu Sub-district, Kampar District, Riau Province, after apparently establishing engine problem.

Supplying details of the crash, Prasetyo stated 3 fighter pilots flew their aircrafts to a basic training area in Siabu at 7 a.m. on Monday morning, and among them crashed an hour later on while going back to the Roesmin Nurjadin air base in Pekanbaru.

” 3 of them (fighter pilots) ended up a shooting training, and were returning (to the air base) in order, starting from number 1, 2, and 3. The last one (airplane) crashed,” he informed.

Right prior to the accident, First Lieutenant Aprianto Ismail, who was piloting the aircraft alone, reported he had experienced a problem: the indication lamp was on, which indicated engine difficulty, according to Prasetyo.

The pilot also reported hearing a surge which led to the British-make aircraft losing power and crashing to the ground.

The crash website was located 2 kilometers away from the military base, and the aircraft was at a height of simply 500 feet when it crashed into homes, Prasetyo included.

No casualties have been reported as the homes were empty. The pilot is in a great condition considering that he “chose to eject himself using the ejection seat”, he continued.

The debris of the aircraft remains at the crash site, while a crane truck put there for evacuation has actually returned.
