Gojek names former Amazon officer Severan Rault its Singapore-based chief innovation officer

SINGAPORE (BUSINESS TIMES) – Indonesian ride-hailing company Gojek has promoted Severan Rault to chief technology officer (CTO), months after he joined the start-up previously this year as head of engineering for its marketplace platform.

Mr Rault will change the company’s previous CTO, Ajey Gore, who stepped down on June 12 to take a “individual break”.

Based in Singapore, Mr Rault will report to Gojek’s co-chief executive Kevin Aluwi, and manage all of the innovation behind Gojek’s environments along with handle the engineering teams in South-east Asia and India.

Previous to signing up with Gojek, Mr Rault was working on his own start-up, virtual truth company Betawave. Prior to that, he was a director of software application advancement at Amazon, where he led the group that established the drone delivery service Amazon Prime Air.

Mr Rault has held management positions at Microsoft, including as the principal architect of search engine Bing and the primary development manager for Microsoft OneApp, which enables older phones to run popular mobile apps.

Commenting on his Gojek appointment, Mr Rault said: “The company is getting in a critical stage as it moves from start-up to maturation, and it’s special to be a part of that … The engineering obstacles associated with that are remarkable, ranging from the unbelievable scaling concerns that require the most advanced cloud options, to the deep application of expert system innovations.”

Co-chief executive Mr Aluwi included: “Severan is a technology leader who cares deeply about delivering value to users all across our community and we are very delighted for him to continue on his long track record of excellence here at Gojek.”
