Fires ravage 60 hectares land in Bintan in one week

Bintan, Riau Islands – Fires have laid to lose around 60 hectares of peatland and bushland in Bintan district, Riau Islands province in the past week, an authorities said.

” Since a week ago, forest and land fires have taken place almost everyday,” acting chief of the regional fire department, Nurwendi, stated on Friday.

Peatland and bush fires have actually been reported in the three sub-districts of Toapaya, Gunung Kijang, and Teluk Bintan, he informed.

They were supposedly triggered by slash-and-burn practices, paired with severe weather and strong winds, he stated.

He prompted the cops to examine reports of continued slash-and-burn practices.

” Anyone involved in forest and land fires must be handled sternly due to the fact that a fire can cause a considerable quantity of product losses,” he mentioned.

He stated the fire department is keeping workers and fire trucks ready round the clock as forest and land fires are still rife in the district.
