Jayapura, Papua – An armed civilian group has reportedly tortured and killed two people in Sugapa district in the easternmost Indonesian province of Papua on Thursday.
” It holds true that there has been a shooting and torture occurrence causing the death of 2 people in 2 different places in Sugapa district, Intan Jaya regency,” leader of the District Armed Force Command, Brigadier General Iwan Setiawan, informed ANTARA over mobile phone.
The murder of the two individuals is the most recent in a series of incidents that have claimed the lives of innocent people in Papua.
On August 26, 2020, a group of local citizens armed with spears, machetes, and logs attacked and eliminated a 31- year-old man identified as, Yausan, in Yahukimo, Papua.
Yausan had actually boarded a pick-up truck loaded with batako bricks along with 2 other homeowners when the group of local citizens attacked them.
Previously, 2 innocent civilians were also assaulted and killed in Yahukimo.
Cops spokesperson, Sen. Coms. A. M. Kamal, stated in a declaration just recently that the 2 other civilians murdered 2 weeks earlier belonged to Yahukimo district’s General Elections Commission (KPU) Workplace and a carpenter.
The Papua Cops recorded that throughout the duration from early January to December 28, 2019, an overall of 23 shootings and criminal cases including armed Papuan groups had claimed the lives of 10 members of the Indonesian cops and military along with 10 civilians.
