Emergency PPKM enforcement need to not include violence: ministry

Jakarta – The Ministry for Women’s Empowerment and Child Defense (KemenPPPA) has actually asked cops to avoid violence while implementing emergency situation community activity constraints, following reports of a couple being assaulted by an officer in Gowa, South Sulawesi.

According to reports, a Public Order Firm (Satpol PP) officer slapped a married couple running a café in Gowa, South Sulawesi on Wednesday (July 17, 2021).

The officer supposedly heard loud music playing at the café during a patrol and went inside the establishment to try to find the owner. A verbal spat supposedly ensued throughout which he slapped the owner and his spouse, who is stated to be 8 months pregnant.

Remembering of the event, Susianawati stated that amid the pandemic, when everyone is having a hard time to take care of themselves and their household, it is much better to approach issues with empathy.

The ministry understands the troubles dealt with by police officers in imposing the PPKM in their areas, particularly when there are still numerous people breaching the guidelines, but discussion and education should be prioritized in the imposition of constraints, she stressed.

The ministry has also prompted residents and government authorities to collaborate to develop an anti-violence society, she stated.

” All of us are having a hard time not to propagate the culture of violence at all levels of society,” she mentioned. Females and kids are often vulnerable to acts of violence, so everyone requires to safeguard them, she remarked.
