Embassy validates 281 Indonesians stranded in India finally return home

Jakarta – A total of 281 Indonesian citizens (WNI), stranded in India for the previous six months, were finally able to go back to Indonesia through the self-repatriation program carried out by the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi.

The last repatriation was the seventh batch and with the biggest number of returnees, the Indonesian Embassy kept in mind on Tuesday.

The WNI were stranded in numerous cities in India following a lockdown imposed by the Indian Government considering that March 24, 2020, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The seventh batch of repatriation was conducted through the Garuda Indonesia flight GA8270 serving the New Delhi-Jakarta-Medan path and was arranged to transit in Jakarta on Tuesday (Sept 1) at 2: 50 a.m. local time and gotten here in Medan, North Sumatra, at 10: 15 a.m. local time.

Of the 281 Indonesian citizens, 216 were members of the Tabligh churchgoers going to a tabligh gathering in India, 10 trainees, six health spa therapists, 10 Indonesian residents undergoing treatment in India, two team members, 6 travelers, 2 badminton coaches, 7 specialists, 7 holders of Abroad Person of India (OCI), one Indonesian citizen wed to an Indian resident, and 14 member of the family of the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi.

Apart from New Delhi, a few of them originated from Odisha, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

Among the requirements for Indonesian citizens to board this repatriation flight was a negative result in a PCR/swab test for COVID-19 medical diagnosis from a government-accredited medical lab that can get approval to carry out the test.
